IDENTITY
Final Photo

Artist statement
A favorite actress of mine once said “If you feel like you really want to define yourself, and you have the ability to articulate those parameters and that in itself defines you, then do it”. From that quote, I picked the word identify.
It made me realizes as a human being we try to cover up our imperfections. With different ways to find who we are so that nobody can see through to find out who really are. We cover ourselves up in many ways some are like emotions, make up, clothing, and masks. But there are so many more, I chose clothing as a way for me to represent identity. Clothing has so many different meanings to people.
The way I represented it in my photo is that I had three ideas I thought of for this photo. My three ideas were a girl looking in the mirror, piles of clothing on the floor that represents all the people she was trying to be but she can’t pick out the clothing that fits her, and the final idea was changing multiple clothing you have the girl in the mirror just going from one piece of clothing to the next. Then when I was sketching about this I was thinking why don’t I put them together to make a collage. Because I felt if I just did one idea it would be to cliché I want more to be added in to the image. So I thought if I put them all together it would just pull the whole idea together.
The way I shot this is I need a mirror, piles of clothing and a model. I wanted a neutral location. So I picked a house because that made sense because that’s where you spend the most time being with yourself alone. When your around others you can feel pressured to do things that you would never do but you did that to keep your identity. So i then made my model Maddie stand on piles of clothing looking at it like she couldn't figure out what to wear. Then i had her change in to multiple clothes and each time. She came out of her bedroom in a different outfit and i had her looking in the mirror confused at all the outfits she chose because she couldn't pick which one looked better. Then i just had her standing in the mirror looking at who she was and wondering who she wants to be. The i collaged them all together to make one photo. In the end of all this it made me realize we don't have to change who we are because who we are is amazing.
